AR Porn has been in development since 2010, even though most people haven’t realized it yet. It has come a long way since it’s humble beginnings. Long before Microsoft Hololens and Magic Leap , there were a few demos out. They were the start of AR porn’s history.
The first PC Webcam AR Porn
The first AR Porn on the scene was Pink Visual with their webcam AR Porn that they debuted at the CES trade show in January 2010. Pink Visual used webcams with Adobe Flash to recognize the marker and display porn around the user when they see themselves in the screen.
“The web camera takes in the room, then puts a porn star or stripper in the scene,” Pink Visual producer Matt Morningwood said while demonstrating the augmented reality for AFP.
It was definitely a novelty, but very exciting at the time when compared to other technology like 3D Television. They had big plans, but sadly, nothing much came of it.
The Beginning of CGI Animation AR Porn
Later in 2010, some people continued to release a couple more demos that resembled what we see today.
A project called XXL Girl was developed by EligoVision for the 13th anniversary issue of a popular Russian men’s magazine at the time, and it was called XXL. The magazine contained a flyer with a marker on one side, and an ad and instructions for readers on the other side. When the users looked at the flyer in a webcam it displayed the live dancer in 3D.
In order to get the 3D Scans, they went to the XXL cover shoot and photographed a real model using three cameras from several angles. After that, they created a CGI copy of the girl using 3D wireframe software.
This demo displaying a nude dancer showed how augmented reality can benefit the print media.
Playboy dabbles with AR Porn
In 2010, a man named Manu, who worked for Atiko Events and Design in Spain, used a cover of a Playboy Magazine as a marker to show a exotic dancer on the cover.
This technology was not officially picked up by PlayBoy, however, they did partner with AR app Layar later in 2013 to create augmented reality bus shelter ads and magazine content.
The Netherlands edition of Playboy magazine included exclusive AR content that can only be triggered when you’re using the Layar app on a smartphone.
Google Glass Porn
In 2013, MiKandi produced the first and probably only public Google Glass Porn video featuring James Deen and the 2011 XBIZ Female Performer of the Year Andy San Dimas.
Unfortunately, porn apps were banned from the Google Glass App store shortly after, and then the hype of Google Glass faded away quickly.
Since then we have been blessed with lots of new technology such as Apples ARKit, with plane detection, removing the need for physical markers in the real environment. The first AR Headset demos such as ARPorn.com Demo V1 and 3DHoloGirlfriend are huge steps forward in the AR field, because you would not need to see the world through a phone, tablet or computer screen. AR Porn may not be ready for mass adoption quite yet, but the industry has definitely came a long way in the last 9 years. And, with AI porn getting underway, we might anticipate an extremely interesting future synergy.
